Railroad Earth playing Grateful Dead's Casey Jones

RRE was at HG last night. Someone asked me what kind of music it was. I didn't know. This is from their website: “We use unique acoustic instrumentation, but we’re definitely not a bluegrass band – so that doesn’t fit. And I think the term ‘jam bands’ probably refers more to the fans than to the bands. I think these fans just like live music.”

Bill Monroe & the Bluegrass Boys - Uncle Pen

Uncle Pen played the fiddle, Lord, how it rang,
You could hear it talk, you could hear it sing!

Boots Of Spanish Leather

This is my favorite song ever written. Dylan wrote it and Nanci Griffith does a beautiful version. I always thought it would be cool as a duet. I don't know who these people are, but they do a pretty good job of it.

"If I had the stars from the darkest night, and the diamonds from the deepest ocean, I'd forsake them all for your sweet kiss, for that's all I'm wishin' to be ownin'.

Townes Van Zandt - If I Needed You

"Townes van Zandt is the best songwriter in the whole world and I'll stand on Bob Dylan's coffee table in my cowboy boots and say that." Steve Earle.

1975.

Carly Simon & James Taylor - Close Your Eyes

1977.

Guy Clark. Dublin Blues

I loved you from the git go
I'll love you till I die
I loved you on the Spanish steps
The day you said goodbye

Gram Parsons & Emmylou Harris - Return of a Grievous Angel

“My feeling is there is no boundary between ‘types of music’…I see two types of sounds — good ones & bad ones.” - Gram Parsons (1946-1973)
